ABOUT US

FRC improves and creates communities that are secure and appealing, vital and revitalized.

First Resource Companies, founded in 1985, is a privately held group of companies specializing in the real estate management, development, construction, and ownership of multifamily communities. We commit financially to new construction, historic preservation, and specialize in affordable housing.

At First Resource Companies, we believe that the development and redevelopment of housing is about more than blueprints and drawings – it’s about drawing on all that makes a history worth keeping and a community worth growing.

Mission Statement What Drives Us

The FRC DifferenceExperience.
Innovative Thinking.
Commitment to Quality.

These three concepts all serve as the foundation of First Resource Companies, and as evidenced by our reputation for sensitive renovation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. We’re proud that several of our properties are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We have always known that beautifying buildings is only one part of enhancing a community; establishing a foundation of trust is what opens the door to hope for the families that live in these neighborhoods.

Award-Winning Dedication to Historic Preservation and Affordable Housing

Over the past forty years, First Resource Companies has evolved into a leading force in the real estate sector, amassing a significant portfolio and earning widespread recognition for its contributions to historic preservation and affordable housing development. The company's commitment to excellence was acknowledged when it received the Excellence in Community Development Award from the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation in 2008. It further cemented its reputation with the Paul E. Tsongas Profile in Preservation Awards in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019, 2022, and 2024 celebrating its achievements in historic preservation.

The Springfield Preservation Trust recognized First Resource Development's impactful projects in Springfield, Massachusetts—High Street Commons and City View Commons I—with Preservation Awards in 2006, 2011, 2018, 2021 (2 awards received), and 2024.

Adding to its accolades, in 2011, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development honored the Worthington Commons project with the prestigious "Door Knocker Award" for outstanding affordable housing development.

Revitalizing Communities Transforming Challenges into Opportunities

In recent endeavors, First Resource Development Company has strategically targeted troubled and neglected properties in urban cores, spearheading their transformation. Leveraging innovative funding mechanisms from local, state, and federal levels, the company has been pivotal in revitalizing neighborhoods, surmounting market adversities, and providing safe, decent housing.

The company's redevelopment projects often involve the meticulous restoration of Georgian and Classical Revival brick buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing its expertise in the preservation and adaptive reuse of historic structures, including those listed on the National Register. These restorations not only honor the architectural integrity of the buildings but also incorporate modern necessities such as handicap accessibility, life safety improvements, and contemporary amenities, ensuring that these historical gems serve the needs of today's communities.
